Capping 4 months of intense competition that spanned the universities in the country and fused technological expertise with innovative spirit, Microsoft Eastern Mediterranean crowned Jordan’s winning team of the annual Imagine Cup student technology competition.

The winning team is composed of Oday Mohammad Al Olabi, Moneer Qaqish, Tareq Tahboob, Issa Hertani from Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT).

The Imagine Cup, an annual student technology competition that provides an outlet for university students to explore technological and artistic interests outside the classroom, represents one of many ways in which Microsoft is enabling the world’s community of students to realize their full potential.

“This contest is designed to energize the creativity and technical savvy inherent within student technologists throughout the world. It empowers students to apply their creativity, knowledge and technical abilities toward making the world not only a more-connected place but also a better place through technology,” said the General Manager of Microsoft Eastern Mediterranean Charles Nahas.
He added: “The pioneering spirit of young people is vitally important to the computer science, engineering and business disciplines as well as the high-tech industry overall.”

Imagine Cup teams in the world were invited this year to compete under one theme: “Imagine a world where technology enables us to live a healthier life”.

Microsoft Eastern Mediterranean sponsors the Software Design Category which is a category of the Imagine Cup designed for products and services that seek to affect people’s lives by dissolving the boundaries between us through smart technology and mobile devices. And this by leveraging the power of the Microsoft .NET Framework and windows platform for future software and imagined a world were smart technology makes everyday life easier, creating products and services that leverage that enables its users to automate functions.

“Applications built by the competing teams deliver creativity, innovation and real world applicability. Each of the students who participated in the local competition represents the best and brightest of tomorrow technology leaders and their innovative creations demonstrates their enormous potential to change and inspire the world,” said the Technical Advisor in Microsoft East Med Muhieddine Chaaban. “It’s a true pleasure to congratulate not only today’s winners but also all the participants on a job very well done”.

“Winning this competition was a great personal achievement that capped several thrilling months of work and preparations. In fact, it’s a unique competition that encourages us, the youth, to apply our imagination and creativity to solving big challenges through technology”, said the winners. They added: “It was a great opportunity made possible through software innovation, and we are looking forward to meeting the other competitors in the region”.

The project presented by PSUT team was titled Electronic Health Record (HER) which is a technology that provides health-care givers with the mechanism to share patients medical and health records through the implementation of international clinical messaging standards.
