Software giant Microsoft announced it will assist Jordan in developing the Information technology sector, reported the official news agency PETRA Sunday.
Director of the Microsoft enterprise customer unit for the Middle East and North Africa, Fred Kamperman, said that Microsoft attaches great expectations to Jordan."
Jordan signed last year a $6.6-million-agreement with Microsoft to equip the government with the latest computers and information technology needs.
The deal was signed in New York on the sidelines of the UN's millennium summit on September 7 in the presence of Jordan's King Abdullah, who has relentlessly campaigned over the past year to put Jordan on the information technology map.
Ever since coming to the throne in February 1999, King Abdullah has spearheaded efforts to build an information technology park in Jordan.
The king focused on developing a scheme to attract $150 million in foreign investments by 2004, create 30,000 jobs and provide cash-strapped Jordan with $550 million from IT-related exports – Albawaba.com
