The death of pop king Michael Jackson was greeted with sadness in Bahrain on Friday. Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the son of King of Bahrain and the former friend of the singer, said in a brief statement that the world had lost a unique talent.
"You know, the world has lost a giant in the music industry and we're all very saddened by that and that's all we've got to say at the moment," he was quoted as saying by the GDN.
Jackson, 50, had earlier been sued by Abdulla's record label 2 Seas after an alleged breach of contract had led to a civil case in London and an out-of-court settlement.
Michael Jackson first visited Bahrain in June 2005 and made the Kingdom his legal home before leaving in May 2006 to go to Europe and Japan.
He was later accused of withdrawing a business deal with the 2 Seas music label, a joint venture with his brother and Sheikh Abdulla, where it was also alleged that he had not delivered an auto-biography and a series of stage shows which he had committed himself to. However, it is understood that Jackson had already paid the money owed to the record label before his death.
