Israel's Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom on Tuesday paid an official visit to Mauritania. During his visit, Shalom met with the Mauritanian President Maaouiya Ould Taya, who said, “There is not one Arab country that does not want relations with Israel.” “Mauritania should not be ashamed of its relations with Israel,” he added, according to ynet.

On his part, Shalom confirmed during his visit that the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank would start on August 15.

Upon his arrival to Nouakchott Airport, Shalom was welcomed by the Mauritanian Foreign Minister, Muhammad Fal Ould Bilal.  Ahead of Shalom's visit, hundreds of local students rioted in protest of his visit.
