A large number of Palestinian mourners have held a funeral ceremony for nine Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank.

The funeral ceremony was attended by thousands of Palestinians in the city of al-Khalil (Hebron) on Saturday.

The mourners chanted anti-Israeli slogans and called on the international community to break its silence in relation to Israel’s acts of violence against Gazans.

Initial reports say violent clashes also broke out between the mourners and Israeli forces after the funeral in the occupied region.

The nine victims were killed after taking to the streets to vent their anger at deadly shooting incidents in the West Bank and the Israeli war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

At least four were killed by Israeli forces during pro-Gaza protests in the occupied region on Thursday night. On Friday, five Palestinians were killed in three incidents involving Israeli troops and settlers.

Thousands of angry protesters set an Israeli military watchtower on fire and brought down a nearby fence.

Also on Saturday, Israeli forces killed two more Palestinians in the West Bank.

Palestinian security officials have identified the victims of the latest Israeli shootings as 16-year-old Nasri Mahmud Paqatqa and 18-year-old Bassem Abu Rub. The death toll in the West Bank over the past three days has now hit 11.

Tension has been running high in the West Bank since Tel Aviv launched its offensive in the Palestinian coastal enclave on July 8.

The Palestinian death toll from the Israeli aerial and ground assaults has risen to about 1,000 with more than 6,000 Gazans injured.
