The UAE’s Marriage Fund intends to sue 99 unmarried UAE nationals to recover Dh4 million which has been paid to them as grants, but later they failed to meet the terms, UAE’s official news agency (WAM) said, citing reports published by major dailies.

A spokesman said the recipients had violated the Fund's rules by not marrying within the set time limit stipulated by the Fund. He said they had been asked to return half of their grants in an attempt to solve the situation amicably, but had not returned the money.

The source explained that the rules of the Marriage Fund stipulate a time limit in which those who receive a grant have to marry.

"Those who make use of the money given to them should marry within the limit time." He said that in spite of the fact that they had made use of the money, the 99 nationals had failed to marry within the limited time.

The Marriage Fund tried to solve the problem with the offenders, but received promises only.

And in some of the cases, it has been difficult to communicate with those people due to changing their addresses and phone numbers, “so we are turning to the law to solve the problem” – Albawaba.com
