As part of its commitment to community projects, Mall of the Emirates hosted a four-day environmental awareness campaign in association with Dubai Municipality recently.
Over four days last week, Mall of the Emirates displayed informative posters and distributed leaflets on the ‘growing’ trend in ‘green roof infrastructure’ at a key entrance location within the Mall, educating shoppers about the simple steps they can take to make their home more environmentally friendly and save energy.
Covering the roof of a building with flowers and plants provides insulation to keep it cool in summer and retain warmth in the winter months, saving on electricity bills.
Fuad Sharaf, Vice-President of Mall of the Emirates, said: “With tens of thousands of visitors every day, our mall is the perfect venue to reach a wide audience. We are always eager to support Dubai Municipality in its drive to encourage greater environmental awareness – and this simple method of using plants and flowers to save energy in the home will be an inspiration for countless people.”
Sharaf added: “We at Mall of the Emirates have taken good steps to help preserve our environment. For example, we reused our existing water feature plant room and our existing courtyard landscape was salvaged and then replanted elsewhere around our mall.”
Sharaf said: “We encourage our visitors to respect the environment, and the Mall of the Emirates is an ideal place to celebrate the virtues of flower power!”
