Umoja’s vibrant jazz beats captivate MoE visitors at DSF
Taking its Dubai Shopping Festival celebrations to the next level Mall of the Emirates, Dubai’s premier shopping and entertainment destination, welcomed its latest international attraction – UMOJA, the Spirit of Togetherness, a well-choreographed performance combining folk and jazz tunes popular throughout South Africa.
Throughout DSF, UMOJA, ‘The Spirit of Togetherness’ takes Mall visitors on a journey of rhythm through South Africa - from the earliest rhythms to Kwaito. Comprised of traditional love songs, lullabies and other musical expressions of rural life, Umoja reflects the pain of the migrant labourers and their families.
The haunting music is made more memorable by vibrant jazz with a thread of gospel music running through the tale recalls, while explosions of gumboot dancing complete this unforgettable experience. The troupe performs every evening till February 24 through three shows at 6.45 pm, 8.15 pm and 9.15 pm on weekdays and 6.45 pm, 8.15 pm and 10 pm on weekends.
