Egypt’s foreign minister Ahmad Maher said in Tunis Saturday the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was not a partner for any Arab party as long as he refused to recognized Palestinian Chairman Yasser Arafat as his peace-mate.
"As long as he (Sharon) does not recognize the legitimate Palestinian leadership and does not consider chairman Arafat as his partner in the peace process, Sharon should not be a party qualified to search for peace in the region," Maher told a news conference shortly before ending his visit to Tunisia. According to a report published in KUNA, Maher, who headed his country's delegation for The Tunisian-Egyptian follow-up and coordination committee, urged the Israeli government to return to the voice of peace in the Middle East.
The Egyptian minister stated his recent visit to Israel was not classified but to directly inform Sharon that the cycle of violence, which he started with occupation and rejection of U.N. resolutions, would jeopardize peace in the region. Maher said the Palestinian struggle would not stop unless all legitimate objectives of the Palestinian people were met. (Albawaba.com)
