Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines are launching their codeshare cooperation at the start of the summer timetable on 25 March. Passengers of both carriers will benefit from harmonised timetables with more frequencies on routes between Germany and Turkey, a wider choice of destinations and better connections at Lufthansa’s two hubs, Frankfurt and Munich, as well as at Istanbul. Moreover, with the introduction of the summer schedule, members of both carriers’ frequent flyer programmes will be able to collect miles on the Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines networks and also redeem them with the partner carrier.

Initially, codeshare services will be operated on the following routes: Frankfurt – Istanbul (Luft¬hansa and Turkish Airlines flights), Frankfurt – Ankara (Turkish Airlines) and Düsseldorf –
Istanbul (Turkish Airlines). On 3 May, three more routes will be operated jointly: Munich –
Istanbul (Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines), Munich – Ankara (Lufthansa) and Munich – Izmir
(Lufthansa). On that date, Turkish Airlines will move into Terminal 2, the Lufthansa Terminal, at Munich Airport. Further codeshare services, such as Lufthansa flights to the US and Turkish Airlines flights to the Middle East and the CIS states will be added on 1 September. The two airlines have long-term plans to extend their codesharing to further Lufthansa destinations in Europe, Canada and South America as well as to other Turkish Airlines destinations in south-eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The cooperation agreement was signed last December in Istanbul by Lufthansa CEO and Chairman Wolfgang Mayrhuber and Turkish Airlines Chairman Candan Karlitekin following the announcement of Turkish Airlines’ accession to Star Alliance. The process of integrating Turkish Airlines into the alliance is now in full swing.
