Little hands keep busy
The Under Construction zone offers youngsters and their parents to construct the project of their dreams

Colourful planks, blocks, nuts, screws, site helmets, goggles even – the Under Construction zone at Modhesh Fun City is a hub of creative activity. Bustling with ideas and innovative designs, the place inspires children to take up projects that give form to their imagination. And it isn’t just children who are enjoying here, parents are stealing into the fun as they lend their little ones a hand. Located in the central exhibition hall of the venue, this zone is one that is bound to be under construction forever.

Carmina Vizcarra, zone in charge explained, “The supplies are kids friendly and very realistic. It is normal for a child to spend hours here, working hard to make the project on his mind. Children love to work with their hands and imagination. Using different colours and panels they have come up with some very unique ideas. Our work as supervisors is to assist them if they feel stuck with their work.”

She pointed out, “Mostly we have children between 3 and 13 showing an interest in this zone but it is not unusual to find dads and mums working with their kids. It’s a great way to spend time together – plus it comes at no cost. We also have giveaways from Tiffany foods on offer for the children who make something that is a class apart.”

Khaleefa Ibrahim, student at Al Ansar International School, grade 5 won himself a gift bag. He proudly showed off his piece of labour and said, “I like working with tools but my father doesn’t allow me to use them. He feels I may hurt myself. So, when I saw this zone and the many types of supplies I stayed back to work on something. I feel this is even better than the video games and rides!”

Mohammed Abdullah Khan, a grade 4 student from Delhi Private School in Sharjah agreed, “I love the arcade games of Magic Planet that they have here, I have managed to win more than 650 tokens but the thrill of working with your hands to make something new by yourself is special. After school reopens, we have our science exhibition. I am hoping to come back and try to figure out the basics of my project.  I made two new friends also in this zone.”

Imran Mohammed and Riyaz Mohammed Mashooq, said as they put the final touches to their wooden kite, “We feel in control and all grown up. It’s a nice way of making new things and working around for solutions, if some piece falls short or doesn’t fit, etc. We are hoping to get a prize for our work.”

Housed at the Airport Expo in Dubai, Modhesh Fun City is open to all from 10.00am to 10.00pm, Saturday to Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays, the venue remains open until 12.00am.
