Gunmen in the Libyan capital Tripoli attacked the Interior Ministry late Tuesday, forcing its closure, AFP reported.
Gunfire was reported around 22:00 (20:00 GMT) Tuesday evening and the building was later surrounded by armed men who blocked its entrance with sandbags. The men then left the area, according to a security official, quoted by AFP.
The same official said the attackers came from Zintan, a city in Western Libya.
The attack comes a week after gunmen from Zintan tried to free five men arrested by rebel fighters. Skirmishes with light and heavy weaponry ensued.
Benghazi blast
Meanwhile in the eastern city of Benghazi, two security patrols were attacked by a car bomber and a 'gelatina', a type of hand-held explosive device.
A car bomb in a BMW exploded at a checkpoint manned by the Joint Security Force. One man remains in intensive care, whilst three others sustained minor injuries as a result of the blast, the Libya Herald reported.
No-one was injured as a result fo the gelatina attack, which was hurled toward the security patrol from a car with blacked-out windows.
