Libya intends to sue a Saudi newspaper over an editorial "harmful" to Libyan-Saudi ties, the Libyan news agency JANA reported Tuesday.
"Libya has decided to file a lawsuit against the newspaper in a Saudi court because it criticized the positions of Libya and its leader, Moamar Kadhafi, and harmed the strong ties" between Tripoli and Riyadh, JANA said.
The Libyan envoy in Riyadh, Mohammad al-Qashat, expressing confidence that Saudi officials did not share the viewpoints expressed by the Saudi daily Al-Watan, told AFP News Agency on Tuesday he would file the suit within a couple of days.
The Libyan leader strongly criticized Saturday a Middle East peace offer recently floated by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and unveiled his own plan for Arab-Israeli peace.
An editorial Monday in Al-Watan charged that Kadhafi's plan was detrimental to Prince Abdullah's initiative.
Chief editor Qinan Abdullah al-Ghamdi told AFP on Tuesday he did not regret running the editorial, which was "a response to the insults Kadhafi hurled at all the Arabs, whom he described as despicable and cowardly." (Albawaba.com)
