ALBAWABA - Imad Trabelsi, Interior Minister in Libya's Government of National Unity (GNU), issued an order to evacuate all homes near valleys and lowland areas in the southern Ghat region following threats of possible flash floods due to heavy rain in the area.
Al-Ahrar TV said the media director of the National Meteorological Center warned that the nation's threat level was raised to medium risk (orange) in the southwest after an increase in thunderstorms. The official urged residents to remain cautious.
Badr Al-Din Al-Toumi, Minister of Local Government and Head of the Government Emergency and Rapid Response Team had ordered public services, water and sanitation companies, and the National Safety Authority to relocate to Ghat and take the necessary precautions to avoid any damage caused by rainfall and valley flooding.
Meanwhile, GNU leader Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah announced precautionary measures in the event of an emergency. He asked Toumi to connect with the mayors of municipalities in Ghat and surrounding areas in order to follow up on any events that might arise as a result of the heavy rain.
He also assigned him the responsibility of taking the required safeguards to avoid power and communication failures.
