Libyan President Moamer Kadhafi on Monday paid homage to Mozambique's independence war heroes in a ceremony at Heroes Square in the capital.

Accompanied by President Joaquim Chissano, Kadhafi laid a wreath on the huge white marble star, where remains of heroes of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) are interred, according to AFP.

He also visited Matendeni, on the outskirts of Maputo, where homeless victims of torrential floods in the year 2000 were accommodated. Kadhafi arrived in Maputo by road from neighboring Swaziland on Sunday, on the third stage of a journey through southern Africa.

He is scheduled to leave Tuesday for Zimbabwe, before going on to Malawi. (Albawaba.com)
