LG Electronics, the global and regional digital leader, has earned major international recognition for its notebook computers. LG’s notebook range swept the Red dot Design Awards for 2006, including the prestigious ‘Best of the Best’ award. LG’s T1 Express Dual, S1 Express Dual, and TX Express all received honours for their innovative design.

The Red dot Design Awards rank alongside the iF and IDEA Design Awards for global industry prestige. More than 2,000 products from 40 countries were entered for judging this year including home appliances, office automation-related products, lighting, and car accessories.

LG’s T1 Express Dual notebook PC won the ‘Best of the Best’ award in the product design category. The T1 builds on LG’s reputation for leading notebook technology and attractive styling.

The T1’s 14.1-inch WXGA widescreen and white keyboard are encased a glossy piano-black exterior, which distinguishes the T1 from conventional notebook PC’s. The T1 Express Dual is only 21mm thick, weighs just 1.9kgs, and features Intel’s Core Duo Processor, making it the best in its class for power and portability.

Other T1 features include a fingerprint reader, Dual Hexa-Band Antenna and tri-band support, dual-layer Super-Multi DVD recorder, and a 5-in-1 multimedia card slot.
“Receiving a top international design award reflects LG’s dedication to innovation and quality – and its growing status globally for premium technology products,” said K.W Kim, President, LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa Operations. “This achievement will help the LG brand further strengthen its market leadership with products that combine aesthetics with functionality.”

The 15.4-inch widescreen S1 Express Dual notebook also boasts a glossy piano-black design. It sports outstanding multimedia features with Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology, and the latest video (ATI MobilityTM Radeon® X1K series) and audio technology.

It also provides the maximum level of security with an embedded security chip called TPM and a fingerprint reader. The S1 Express Dual notebook PC is expected to set the standard for cutting edge notebook PC design thanks to its Red dot Design Award 2006.

The third Red dot Design Award winner, the TX Express notebook PC is the thinnest and lightest product in the LG notebook family. It weighs only 1.1 kgs, and is just 23 mm thick. The TX Express is also the world’s first ‘sub-notebook PC’ with ‘discrete graphics Geforce Go 7300’ designed by US graphics supplier NVIDIA.

Kim added: “LG sold notebooks worth US$53 million in the Middle East and Africa region last year, a 112 per cent increase compared to 2004. We introduced Sonama and Dual Core Chip-set notebook PCs ahead of our competitors. This proved to our customers that LG is well ahead of the competition, not only for product design but also technology. Today, LG consumers demand the highest standard of technology, functionality and design excellence.”
