Britian's Lennox Lewis devastated America's Michael Grant for a second round knockout Saturday at Madison Square Garden maintaining the heavyweight title.

Lewis destroyed his larger opponent, who didn't put up much of a fight, in just two minutes and 53 seconds into the second round.

"This fight made a great impact, it sets the mood. It proves I have got awesome power. I have an arsenal of punches to take you out at any moment with any punch. Any guy who steps in front of me gets knocked out", reported AFP as Lewis commented proudly on the fight.

Lewis's shrewdness tricked Grant into mistakes many times and using his right hand, knocked down Grant three times in the first round.

"Every time I hit him he went down, so I just kept hitting him," AP quoted Lewis.

Apparently the crowd of 17,324 wasn't surprised when the 27-year-old tower was knocked out.

But Grant managed to keep up a brave face after his crushing defeat, his first in 32 fights, saying through AP sources that his future "ain't over til it's over."

Lewis used several overpowering uppercuts to flatten Grant, overhead hooks to break out of clinches and took advantage of Grant's inexperience to set him up for hard punches.

The champion rose to 36-1 with one drawn after his 28th knockout.

"I'm very satisfied," said Emanuel Steward, Lewis' trainer through AFP, "He did what I always knew he could do. I think Lennox likes the adulation that goes with the knockout. I can see him fighting at this level for another three, four years" - (Several Sources).
