Lebanon's army chief called for national unity after rival political parties agreed to end months of conflict in the country, a local newspaper reported on Friday. "I cannot save the country alone. This mission requires the efforts of all," General Michel Sulaiman told as-Safir newspaper.

Parliament is set to confirm Sulaiman as head of state on Sunday.

"Security is not achieved with muscles, but joint political will," Sulaiman was quoted as saying. "We have to fortify ourselves politically and in terms of security through internal unity," he said.
