Lebanon: Three dead in clashes related to the Syrian crisis

At least three people were killed and 33 injured in sectarian clashes in Tripoli, the largest city in northern Lebanon. The violence continued Tuesday.

Lebanese authorities announced today that two men were killed and sixty injured in clashes between the Sunni night Alawites in the north of Lebanon, Tripoli. According to the locals, Alawites and Sunnis have exchanged gunfire and grenades since Monday night.

The Lebanese army said that ten soldiers were wounded in the clashes as they were trying to calm the situation. "The army continues to pursue the gunmen and was able to seize a quantity of guns, bombs and ammunition," a statement by the army said.

Tensions, which are already high in Lebanon, have exacerbated by the Syrian crisis.
