The former head of the intelligence branch of the internal security forces Lt. Col. Samir Shehade on Tuesday was seriously injured and two others died in an explosion that targeted his convoy in Rmeileh, near the southern port city of Sidon.
Lebanon's Interior Minister Fatfat said Shehade had been involved in the arrest of the four generals accused of involvement in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination.
The attack occurred ahead of a report this month by U.N. investigator Serge Brammertz on his inquiry in Hariri's killing.
