Lebanon continued protesting globalization, calling for Arab action in late to the opening session of the World Forum on the WTO Monday.

The forum is hosting meetings and workshops from November 6-8 at UNESCO Palace, focusing on the potential ramifications for Lebanon’s economy should it join the WTO, and analyzing the overall impact of globalization on the Middle East, according to the Beirut-based The Daily Star.

The paper said that the gatherings in Beirut “are proof of the enlargement and growing power of the anti-globalization movement.

A two-day summit of anti-globalization activists was concluded in the Lebanese capital on Sunday, one week ahead of the WTO meeting in Qatar.

More than 500 people attended the conference, whose aim was to discuss the effects of globalization on the Arab world. The conference will publish a statement of purpose, known as the "Beirut Declaration", in the coming days, the organizers said.

Jose Bove, the French farmer turned anti-globalization activist, urged Arabs to “rise up and fight against globalization the newest form of colonialism.”

Although he still doesn’t know if he will be allowed entry to protest at the upcoming WTO conference in Doha, Bove said, “they’re fighting globalization right now,” he said, “as they try to diversify their crops.” – Albawaba.com
