Lebanon's Prime Minister Fouad Saniora urged Hizbullah Thursday to engage in dialogue in order to resolve the political crisis. "Dialogue, accepting one another and drawing on our constitutional institutions are the only ways to resolve Lebanon's problems," said Saniora, in Jordan on a tour of Arab states, the AP reported.
Referring to the Hizbullah-led protests, Saniora said, "All these practices will lead to absolutely nothing." "The only solution is to reach out. There should be no divisions and no divorce between the Lebanese people," he told reporters.
Earlier, Hizbullah has threatened to block key roads across the country as part of its campaign to topple Saniora's government. Hizbullah politburo member Mahmoud Qammati told Al Arabiya television late Wednesday that the Hizbullah-led opposition was considering "blocking main roads across Lebanese territories."
Former Prime Minister Omar Karami also threatened that the opposition will "gradually escalate" its protest as of Saturday, January 20.
