Lebanon’s Health Minister Suleiman Franjieh said Tuesday that he was opposed to opening another front with Israel without coordination with the government.
Franjieh said that opening a new front “should take place within pre-set objectives,” referring to recent reports of cross-border fire, including Katyusha rockets, by individuals identified as fighters from Palestinian factions.
With regards to the Hizbullah leader’s pledge earlier this week not to open a new front unless Israel undertook a mass expulsion of Palestinians, Franjieh said Nasrallah had never misjudged the situation and added that he was confident with his judgement, according to Lebanon’s Daily Star.
“I am not in favor of opening a new front unless it is in the best interest of the country,” the minister said, adding that it was “unacceptable” for the front to be opened by unknown elements.
He conveyed that Lebanon knew “better than the Europeans, the Americans and the Iranians,” what was best for the country.
“We are for the resistance and against any unruly element, because Lebanon cannot tolerate any more (hardship),” the minister explained.
In addition, Franjieh downplayed the importance of the recent redeployment of Syrian troops in Lebanon, expressing that “when there is mutual trust between the two countries, this (redeployment) becomes only a matter of detail.” (Albawaba.com)
