The Lebanese army detained four Iraqi nationals in Beirut's southern suburb late Wednesday, after they were stopped in a vehicle carrying fake license plates that belonged to a car under suspicion of being used for an attack.

According to an army statement issued Thursday, "Iraqi nationals Ali Hussein Talleb al-Khuwailed, Hassan Mohammad Hassan al-Moussawi, Yasser Mustapha Jaafar Jamaleddine and Fares Abdulaziz Ali, were detained in Beirut's southern suburb of Haret Hreik."

The four were in a "Volkswagen car carrying a fake license plate, which belongs to another car suspected of being used to conduct a security act [in] the country."

Meanwhile, Syrian national Ahmad Mohammad al-Mahou and Lebanese Rami Khaled al-Majzoub were detained by an army unit in the Bekaa town of Deir Zannoun, following a pursuit.

"The two men are suspected of facilitating the smuggling of Syrians into Lebanon and impersonating security agents," the statement read.

Another Syrian identified as Hamad al-Khalaf was arrested while trying to infiltrate Lebanon near the Masnaa Lebanese-Syrian border crossing.
