A blast was heard in a southern area of the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday morning, but the cause was not immediately clear, residents and a security source said.

Security sources told Reuters that at least two people were killed and six wounded by the blast.

One witness said she saw a plume of smoke rising in the area, Reuters reported.

The explosion took place in the neighborhood of Bir Hassan, near the Kuwaiti embassy and the Iranian cultural chancellery, LBC news channel said.

This is the latest bomb to hit Beirut's southern suburbs in recent months.
