General Security announced the arrest of a man Thursday suspected of belonging to extremist militant groups.
A General Security statement said that a Lebanese national, identified by the initials Kh. F., confessed to building explosive devices and preparing suicide bombers who were planning to detonate themselves in Lebanese territory.
He said he worked with several “terrorists” including Lebanese national A. S. and Palestinian national M. Z.
The statement did not, however, specify which militant groups the suspect belonged to, or what bombings he helped prepare.
The suspect was referred to judiciary for further investigation.
This latest arrest is part of a nationwide crackdown against militant groups, who are fighting against the Lebanese Army along the northeastern border with Syria.
Since the civil war broke out in neighboring Syria five years ago, Lebanon has been faced with a series of bombings and attacks by militant groups.
At least 60 people were killed and 200 others were injured in two suicide blasts claimed by Daesh in the southern suburbs of Beirut last November.
