Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Information and Culture, received Saturday night, Dr. Karam Karam, the Lebanese Tourism Minister.
Dr. Karam conveyed through Sheikh Abdullah a verbal message to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan from Lebanese President Emil Lahoud, focusing on Lebanon's request to the UAE to support Dr. Karam's nomination as Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Sheikh Abdullah restated that the United Arab Emirates supports the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health to nominate Dr. Karam for the post of WHO Director-General, according to WAM news agency.
"We support the nomination of Dr. Karam who is highly qualified for the post," Sheikh Abdullah said in a statement, adding that the UAE would do everything possible to solicit support from countries for Dr. Karam's nomination.
Dr. Karam Karam served as Minister of Health in the previous Lebanese government, the news agency added. (Albawaba.com)
