Israel's three-week-old offensive against Hizbullah in Lebanon has killed more than 900 people and wounded 3,000 with a third of the casualties children under 12, Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said on Thursday.
Siniora, in a video message to a summit of leaders of the Muslim world, added that a quarter of the population, or one million people, had been displaced.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes renewed strikes against Hizbullah strongholds in the outskirts of the Lebanese capital Thursday, as well as on Lebanon's northern border with Syria and in the eastern Bekaa Valley. Lebanese security officials said an Israeli missile slammed into a house in the border village of Taibeh early Thursday, killing a family of three. A missile crashed into the two-story house of Hani Abdo Marmar, killing him instantly along with his wife and child, the officials said.
The three victims were still buried under the rubble of their house, which was flattened, witnesses said.
An Israeli soldier was killed in fierce gunfights in south Lebanon on Wednesday night. Fifteen Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded in battles on Thursday morning and evacuated to hospital in Israel.
