Lebanon’s National Liberal Party President Dory Chamoun on Monday said that Syria’s presence in Lebanon “is no longer useful, but has become a danger.” Chamoun’s comments came after a visit to Cardinal Nasrallah Butros Sfeir to relay his New Year’s greetings to the Maronite patriarch, The Daily Star reported.
In answer to a reporter’s question, Chamoun stated he disapproved of Syrian interference in Lebanese affairs, and added that Syria’s military presence in Lebanon was “unacceptable and rejected.”
Meanwhile, a Syrian worker was shot dead in southern Lebanon, the police reported Monday, adding that his body was found a day earlier near the village of Magdousheh. Abdel-Sattar Abboud, 31, was found dead in a barn, his body riddled with bullets from a hunting rifle. The circumstances of this incident are still vague. (Albawaba.com)
