A man opened fire Wednesday on a Beirut university campus, killing eight people before he was apprehended by police, police officials said.
They said Ahmed Mansour, who apparently has financial problems and debts, walked into the office in Beirut and started firing indiscriminately with an assault rifle, immediately killing his victims.
According to news agencies, police said Mansour, began firing in the air and then turned his gun on people in the offices of the teachers' compensation fund in the literature department of Lebanese University.
Lebanon’s Education Minister Abdel-Rahim Mrad, who inspected the scene, said Mansour had borrowed 18 million pounds ($12,000) from the fund and was unable to pay it back. He had to sell his car and was still short of money to repay the loan. "He obviously got angry," the minister told reporters. (Albawaba.com)
