A Lebanese man was killed this week by a gang of robbers in Ghana after leaving a bank, a security source said.
The deceased was identified by the source as Ahmad Safieddine, from the southern port city of Tyre. Safieddine’s family has confirmed the news.
Jamal Safieddine, the victim’s uncle, said that Safieddine had been working at another of his uncles' companies in Ghana. On Wednesday, en route to the company headquarters from a local bank, he was reportedly attacked by robbers traveling in two vehicles.
Jamal Safieddine said that his nephew was shot in the back. He noted that the assailants had been attempting to rob the deceased.
Relatives of Safieddine living in Ghana were in contact with local authorities, and investigations into the matter had been launched, Jamal Safieddine said.
He added that his nephew’s body would be returned to Lebanon on Thursday, and that the burial would take place Friday at 3 p.m. in Tyre.
