A Syrian girl who was being tortured in her parents' home was rescued on Wednesday, and her father was arrested, the Internal Security Forces announced Thursday.
The police said in a statement that it received information that M.Sh. was being tortured in her family's home, in the village of Tamnin al-Tahta in the Baalbek district. She later confirmed this to authorities.
She told police that her father and brother on Tuesday forcefully took her from her husband's house in the Mount Lebanon town of Ghazir and beat her severely. She added that they tore up her legal documents and threatened to kill her, tied her up with chains.
The police tweeted images of the girl’s feet chained to a heater.
The statement added that the father, Kh.Sh., was later arrested, and police seized the small key he used to lock the chains on his daughter. He told police that he beat his daughter as she returned to her husband's house without his permission.
Authorities are now pursuing the brother.
