Lebanese Company Co-Wins Bid for Syria\'s Mobile Phone Network

Together with the Syrian-Egyptian mobile phone company, SyriaTel, the Lebanese Investcom company has recently won a bid for operating Syria's mobile phone network, and were both granted a 15-year mobile telephone exploitation concession in Syria, according to Lebanon.com. 

The Turkish mobile operator Telsim had been also competing to win the bid, said the web site.  

According to the report, the two Arab companies will be in charge of installing 85,000 mobile phone lines in the country. Work on the project is expected to start as soon as the contracts are signed.  

Investcom is a branch of the Lebanese Meeqati group. 

SyriaTel was the first GSM license to launch in Syria. It launched a promotion campaign under the theme "Good News" for a market thirsty for cellular mobile service – Albawaba.com
