A car bomb which exploded on Tuesday afternoon in Baghdad brought the death toll in the Iraqi capital to at least 20, following a string of attacks by gunmen on Iraqi security forces which began early on the morning.
At least 32 bystanders were also injured in the attack, which took the lives of three Iraqis when a car bomb exploded in central Baghdad around 2 PM local Iraqi time, according to AFP.
Earlier, 10 Iraqis were killed in other attacks by gunmen throughout the capital, according Iraq's Ministry of Interior.
In the southern district of the Iraqi capital a police officer was shot and killed by gunmen while another officer and his driver were killed in the Zoura and Zafarania districs, according to Reuters.
In a separate attack, four patrol policemen were shot dead in the eastern section of the capital, while in the nearby Zayouna district, two additional officers were killed. In the neighborhood of Al Shuula to the north of Baghdad, three patrol officers were wounded and one killed as well.
Four additional Iraqi soldiers were killed to the north of Iraq in the district of Samarra when a bomb went off, while a couple in the northern Dura district were shot and killed by gunmen.
In a separate attack, three civilians were killed when gunmen opened fire on their van. The three were apparently Shiites on a pilgrimage to Iran, according to AFP sources.
