At least 16 dead in Iraq explosions

A suicide truck bomber targeted a police station in the northern city of Kirkuk on Monday, killing at least 13 people and injuring dozens, including many children from a nearby school, police said.

 

According to the AP, the bomber rammed the truck into the concrete blast barriers surrounding the back of the compound at about 11:30 a.m., detonating his explosives, local police spokesman Brig. Gen. Sarhat Qadir said. He added 13 people died and 137 were injured.

 

Also Monday, a car parked in a garage went off in Baghdad, killing at least three people and wounding 10, police said. The explosion took place about 10 a.m. near a governmental property registration agency in Baiyaa, an area with a mixed population of Sunnis and Shiites in western Baghdad. Police said five cars and nearby buildings also were damaged.
