The US Army on Monday said a bomb north of Baghdad killed five Iraqi civilians and wounded 12. The incident took place in the town of Kan'aan, just north of the capital, when a bomb detonated near a passing U.S Humvee, a hospital official told Reuters.

Elsewhere, eyewitnesses and the Iraqi police said American forces opened fire on a crowded minibus north of Baghdad, killing five members of the same family, including two children, and wounding four others. One of the survivors told Reuters the family was going from Balad to the nearby city of Baquba for a funeral when they were hit by U.S. fire.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Marine died on Sunday from gunshot wounds sustained on Saturday in the western town of al-Karmah, the U.S military said in a statement on Monday. Karmah is located 15 km west of Baghdad.
