Sniper attacks on a Shiite religious procession killed 10 pilgrims and wounded 43 in Baghdad on Sunday. Four suspected gunmen were shot dead by police, officials said.
The attacks took place from rooftops along several points in the route of the procession to the shrine of Imam Moussa Kadhim, an 8th century saint, in Kazimiyah in north Baghdad. At least 10 pilgrims were killed and 43 injured "in various areas across Baghdad," said Maj. Gen. Mahdi al-Gharawi, the commander of the 1st Division of the national police, according to the AP.
Security forces killed two snipers in Fadhil, a Sunni district near Kazimiyah, and two suspects who tried to mingle with the crowed in Zafraniyah, a mixed neighborhood, police said.
