Launch of Arab Econtent awards announced

Winners to be recognized at Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2009
Arab eContent will be evaluated by the United Nations according to the highest global standards

The inaugural of Arab eContent Awards will be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The winners of the award, which recognizes outstanding eContent in the Arab world, will be honored by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of Information and Communication Technology (SCICT), as part of the opening ceremony of the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2009 scheduled for May 25th – 27th.

Commenting on the announcement, H.E. Sh. Ahmed bin Ateyat Allah Al Khalifa, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, said, “the Arab eContent Awards are part of the World Summit Awards (WSA), and as such, the registration and evaluation process will be conducted according to an internationally recognized and scientific system which has been established by international experts in the field of eContent.”

The awards will help spur on the Kingdom’s efforts towards encouraging eContent innovation locally and around the world, which are part of global initiatives aimed at bridging the digital gap between United Nations (UN) member nations. Hosting the Arab eContent Awards in Bahrain in cooperation with WSA and UN is a clear example of this commitment.

“This award is a continuation of the overwhelming success of Bahrain’s eContent Awards 2009 held on the16th of March 2009,” added H.E. Sh. Ahmed bin Ateyat Allah Al Khalifa. “We received over 400 entries from both the public and private sector for that award, which was organized by the eGovernment Authority, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Bahrain Internet Society, and held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.”

H.E. the Minister for Cabinet Affairs went on to say that the Arab eContent Awards also aim to facilitate the cooperation between fellow Arab nations in this field and propel their products to global recognition by qualifying for the WSA, whereby all eContent winners from national competitions throughout in the Arab countries will be evaluated according the same high standards specified by the WSA. At the end of the process, the winners selected automatically qualify for the WSA and be officially recognized at the Bahrain International eContent Forum 2009.

The winners who will be announced and honored at the Forum’s opening ceremony will be spread across award 8 categories: eGovernment, eEntertainmment, eHealth, eLearning, eScience, eInclusion, eBusiness, and eCulture.

The Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2009 will host a large number of international speakers and decision makers from the United Nations, World Summit Awards, heads of GCC eGovernment authorities, Arab countries, EU, international companies, technical societies, and chambers of commerce, among others.
