A laptop computer has been stolen from the minister in charge of Britain's nuclear secrets, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced Saturday.
A thief broke into the home of armed forces minister John Spellar in Bromley, Kent, southern England on March 25.
The burglar stole a laptop computer, but left the ministerial "red boxes" containing potentially sensitive defense information, a ministry spokesman said.
The computer only held information concerning Spellar's local parliamentary constituency, the spokesman added.
"There was no MoD-related information on it," he said.
Spellar's security arrangements "have been reviewed" the spokesman added.
The theft was the latest in a worrying series for defense officials and members of the British secret services.
In early May, a high-ranking marine officer had his portable computer stolen, with sensitive information stored in it, on a train traveling into London. That computer was recovered.
In late March a secret service agent working for MI6 left his portable computer full of confidential information in a taxi cab after an evening spent in a tapas bar.
That computer was also recovered after a police enquiry.
Another secret services laptop computer was stolen in early March from Paddington station in London. That one was never found -- LONDON (AFP)
