Gathering together investors, potential investors and a whole group of excited school kids from Al Ruwad School in Hamala, Lagoon Bahrain pulled out all the stops for a family fiesta on the Amwaj Island site on Friday 9th March. Over 200 guests enjoyed an excellent family outing combined with the opportunity to visit the spectacular Lagoon Bahrain commercial freehold project for the first time since the final stages of construction have been reached.
Whilst families mingled and savoured the splendid buffet lunch which included a selection of dishes from around the globe, the children were royally entertained with competitions and games including a Jumbo Poster for painting and drawing. A Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Henna Painting, a Balloon Twister, and an ambulant Magician entertaining individual tables with his tricks, added to the carnival atmosphere whilst a DJ provided lively background music.
Mr. Rashad Janahi, Chairman of Lagoon Bahrain Project said: “This is a great opportunity for us to combine an informal project update for investors with a little lighthearted fun. Being part of the community we feel that it is important to involve ourselves at a grass roots level and access to a sound education is the first building block towards a successful future.”
Lying at the heart of a new community, The Lagoon, part of Amwaj Islands off the coast of Muharraq, comprises eight superbly appointed low-rise buildings for high-end consumer retail, leisure and food and beverage outlets all enjoying a sea view. Covering a total land area of 55,000 square metres, the development represents an investment of more than US$90 million.
With construction now in the final stages, the Lagoon Bahrain is on target for its completion date of September 2007. The masterplan for the landmark waterside project takes inspiration from international shopping and dining destinations such as London's Covent Garden and Cockle Bay Wharf in Sydney. Combining retail and leisure, The Lagoon is a stunning development that will inspire both residents of Amwaj Island as well as visitors.
Mr. Rashad Janahi, Chairman of Lagoon Bahrain Project said, “This is the first neighbourhood event for what will soon be a whole new community of businesses at the Lagoon Bahrain. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I think this sets the tone for a development that will soon become the island’s leisure hub.”
The Lagoon
The Lagoon is located on Amwaj Island with magnificent views across the water. It comprises a lively waterfront promenade of top-flight retail and restaurants which represents a US$90 million investment and will be sold on a full ownership basis to both GCC and non-GCC investors. Visitors will be able to choose from a wide range of retail outlets with easy accessibility for cars and ample parking. The total land area is 55,500 square metres made up of 8 low rise buildings which are due for completion by Sept 07. Matching the needs of Amwaj Island residents as well as visitors, The Lagoon will offer a new definition to quality lifestyles.
Amwaj Island
The Amwaj Islands project is an artificial island development in Muharraq, Bahrain. It involves the creation of an artificial island off the coast of Muharraq Island. The island will become a 'city' of luxury apartments and villas of various configurations.
The land reclamation project secured 2.798 million m² of land allowing a beachfront of 9.5km. To link the island to Muharraq Island, near Qalali Village and the mainland, a 3km causeway was constructed to connect to a new ring road highway on the mainland. This makes the distance between the new island and Bahrain International Airport only 8km.
Amwaj Island will accommodate more than 35,000 people and host educational facilities, commercial districts, and spectacular hotels and tourist attractions.
Al Ruwad School
