Iran is a neighboring Muslim country enjoying deep-rooted bilateral cooperation ties with Kuwait, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Jabir Mubarak Al Sabbah said on Sunday, according to IRNA.

Speaking to the UAE magazine Al Diffa’ Al Khaleeji, he added that Kuwait is interested in enhancing its ties with Iran in order to strengthen regional security and stability. The Kuwaiti deputy minister claimed that the two countries' cooperation aimed at eliminating any obstacle on the way to develop relations between Iran and other Arab Gulf states.

"We hope that Iran will never use its military power against the Persian Gulf littoral states," he stated.

In response to a question on whether signing contracts with other countries have led to the presence of foreign forces throughout the region, and whether those forces would leave the region following the overthrow of the Baghdad regime, he said, "Our view point is centralized on a new defense policy in which at first we rely on our own defense power and then on the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab countries”. He added that seeking help from the allied countries would be the last resort in this regard.

"Any change in the existing Baghdad regime is a domestic issue and is related to the Iraqi nation", he added, emphasizing, however that Kuwait would never trust the current regime in Iraq. (Albawaba.com)
