Kuwait said Monday the Arab summit set for October 21-22 should be devoted entirely to "Jerusalem and the latest events in the Middle East," rejecting attempts to add items to the agenda.
Acting premier and foreign minister, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, told Al-Rai Al-Aam daily "Kuwait rejects the addition of new items to the agenda of Cairo summit, other than the issue of Jerusalem and latest developments in the Middle East."
"The agenda of the summit is supposed to be limited to events in the Middle East, and what the Palestinians are being subjected to. This is the reason for holding the summit," Sheikh Sabah said.
But he reiterated that Kuwait will attend the summit.
The Kuwaiti comments followed reports that the meeting could discuss the issue of Iraq and Arab efforts to ease a decade-long economic embargo against Baghdad for invading Kuwait.
The emirate has not yet said who would lead its delegation to the summit, but reports have indicated that Sheikh Sabah will represent Kuwait.
Only one Arab summit has been held since the 1991 Gulf War, which liberated Kuwait following Iraq's invasion that split the Arab world.
Iraq was not invited to a meeting of heads of state hosted by Cairo in 1996, but Egypt has invited Baghdad to this summit -- KUWAIT CITY (AFP)
