Kuwait transportation minister opens Bahrain pavilion at Infoconnect 2009
The latest in eServices on display by the Kingdom

The Bahrain pavilion at the 28th Kuwait Exhibit for Information & Communication Technology (InfoConnect 2009) was officially opened by H.E. Nabeel Khalaf bin Salamah, Kuwait Transportation Minister and Electricity & Water Minister. The exhibit, which is held from the 1st to the 7th of this month in Kuwait, also features displays from all GCC countries.

H.E. the Minister then toured the various areas of the pavilion, accompanied by Mr. Mohammed Al Qaed, CEO of the Bahrain eGovernment Authority (eGA). During the tour, Al Qaed spoke about the eGA National Portal (www.bahrain.bh), which currently hosts 69 of the 167 eServices planned for offer through the four channels (National Portal, National Call Center, Unified Service Centers, and Mobile Phone Portal) stated in the eGA’s strategic plan.

At the end of the tour, H.E. the Minister lauded the high level of sophistication of the eServices which Bahrain offers to its public, and congratulated the Kingdom for its exceptional participation in the InfoConnect exhibit for the second consecutive year.

Commenting on the participation, Al Qaed said, “The Kingdom of Bahrain’s presence in such regional technological events serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences between GCC countries in eGovernment issues, and also highlights the major accomplishments achieved by the Kingdom in this field.”

“The Bahrain pavilion showcases the very latest in information and communication technology for integrated eGovernment services,” Al Qaed added, “with the intention of sharing knowledge in this field and conveying the high level and quality of eServices which the Kingdom of Bahrain has for its citizens, residents, visitors, and government and private sector entities alike. This in accordance with the Bahrain Vision 2030 initiatives set by our government, which collectively aim to increase the competitive capabilities of the Kingdom on all levels.”

In its first day, the Bahrain pavilion at Kuwait Exhibit for Information & Communication Technology (InfoConnect 2009) drew a large number of industry experts and officials from Kuwait and the rest of the GCC countries, as well as attracting Kuwaiti citizens, residents, tourists, and representatives from various media outlets.

Bahrain’s participation in the exhibit comes a few weeks after the eGA’s National Portal (www.bahrain.bh) was recognized as the “Best eGovernment Application” in the recent Arab GoldenChip Awards, taking home the award over other neighboring Arab countries’ submissions.
