A day after Syria and Iraq signed 10 cooperation agreements in a landmark development in their bilateral relations, Kuwaiti officials were in Damascus negotiating their deals with their Arab neighbor.

Kuwait’s minister of finance, planning and state minister for administrative development affairs, Youssef Al Ibrahim, arrived in Syria Tuesday at the head of a delegation that includes Kuwait’s minister of commerce and industry, Salah Khorsheed, and the director of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Bader Al Humaithi.

Ibrahim was quoted by the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, as saying that the work of the joint Kuwaiti-Syrian high committee in preparing for the signing of bilateral agreements was important.

He added that economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries was crucial because "the world has become a small village and economic interrelationships in the Arab world need to be fully promoted."

The agreements are expected to center on the fields of economy, commerce, finance, investments, and transportation, among other things, said the agency.

The talks come ahead of an official visit to Kuwait next Saturday by Syrian President Bashar Al Assad – Albawaba.com
