Kuwait’s parliament on Monday gave the government a period of twelve days to file fraud cases against former oil minister Sheikh Ali Al Sabah, reported the official Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).
Thirty-three MPs proposed that Oil Minister Adel Al Sebeeh submit the file.
He said that “time is insufficient, but we will try to submit the notification during this period of time.”
Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah said that the government was keen on implementing laws and taking legal action against any citizen who tried to exploit the authority.
Sheikh Ali has denied fraud allegations which were first filed against him in 1993, said Reuters.
Monday's recommendation also approved an urgent debate on Tuesday to amend a 1995 law governing the trial of ministers, said the agency.
Parliament also separately agreed to investigate why the last legal complaint against Sheikh Ali, filed in December 1998, was dismissed by the court.
The latest clash emerged on Wednesday when a ministerial court dismissed a case against Sheikh Ali involving $130 million and operations by the state's Kuwait Oil Tanker Co.
It said the case failed to meet requirements and was incomplete – Albawaba.com
