Security authorities in Kuwait have detained 18 Iranians who entered the emirate illegally by sea, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
They were caught early Monday after being spotted by residents in Subiya, south west of Kuwait City, who reported them to the authorities, Al-Watan said.
During interrogation, the men said a boat had dropped them off the Kuwaiti coast and they swam ashore, the daily added. Helicopters scoured the area for any more infiltrators, it said.
Around 66,000 Iranian expatriates work legally in Kuwait, mainly in manual and low-paid jobs.
Kuwait's 290-kilometer Gulf coastline faces Iran, long considered a key transit country for the westward movement of both illegal workers and drugs. (Albawaba.com)
