The Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported that the Kuwaiti security authorities have arrested four people in connection with the killing of a woman journalist.
KUNA said that the suspects were being interrogated about the killing of Hidaya Sultan al-Salem, the editor-in-chief of Majalis magazine, who was killed on Tuesday when attackers shot six bullets into her head.
Al Salem died in hospital, a security source told the agency on Tuesday.
Al Jazeera satellite channel linked the assassination to reports that she published an exposé of the embezzlement of public money and the misuse of office in the Gulf emirate. Sultan was also a crusader for women’s right and full political rights for citizens.
In her last articles, she spoke of threats she was receiving. But her lawyers told Al Jazeera that it was premature to assume that the murder was committed for political reasons.
The station reminded viewers of other assassination attempts targeting journalists who published stories about corruption in the country. It said that 80 percent of Sultan's recent stories focused on this issue - Albawaba.com
