Etisalat-BT Innovation Center (EBTIC), established by Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), Etisalat and BT, hosted at KUSTAR's Abu Dhabi Campus its quarterly Senior Management Board Meeting attended by senior executives from Etisalat, BT and KUSTAR.
The board members have reviewed the progress of EBTIC operations. The board meeting was followed by an innovation showcase in which results of EBTIC research and innovation activities have been demonstrated to a number of Etisalat senior directors and managers.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Mualla, Interim Provost of KUSTAR and EBTIC Board Member said: "EBTIC was founded as a direct realization of KUSTAR's mission as an institution that drives research in the region. Through collaboration with universities, industry and governmental organizations, EBTIC is expected to become one of the most influential driving forces for innovation in the field of Next Generation Networks (NGN) enabled ICT applications and services, both within the Middle East region and beyond."
In its initial operational phase, EBTIC is focusing on two areas of research. The first, 21st Century Intelligent Customer Service and Systems, will be building ICT systems for delivering and managing a new generation of services, for the individual needs of users, be they consumers or large corporations.
The other area of research is Energy Efficient Next Generation Communications Infrastructure and Green ICT. Through this project, EBTIC researchers will examine and address issues such as developing sustainable telecommunication networks and services, develop the low cost/ energy-aware devices, and discuss the energy reduction methods for intelligent telecommunications infrastructure and its real-time management.
The board meeting was attended by Mr. Ahmad Julfar Chief Operating Officer, Etisalat, Mr. Mike Galvin Managing Director, BT Innovate & Design, and Dr. Mohammed Al Mualla, Interim Provost, KUSTAR, together with Mr. Nasser Salim, Etisalat's Senior Vice President/Central Information Technology, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al Mutawa, Senior Vice President/Technology Innovation,
