Syria's Kurds name third and final local government in push for autonomy

A third and final local government administration has been named by Syria’s Kurds, who are pushing for autonomy in areas where they have a significant presence. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the arrangements were announced for the province of Afrin, the westernmost of three areas the Kurds have identified as part of their autonomous administration. The new body is overseen by a president and two vice presidents and includes 22 separate bodies, which function as ministries. It comes after similar announcements were issued for the provinces of Rojava, and Kobani earlier this month. The Observatory said the new bodies would continue to hold office for four months, after which elections for legislative and executive councils will be held.
