At a workshop on food safety and quality organized by Dubai Municipality on February 25, Kraft Foods experts will be sharing their expertise and global best practices with food regulatory authorities in Dubai. This new initiative reflects cooperation and partnership with food regulators and inspectors in the UAE. The workshop, which takes place at the Dubai Central Laboratory, is a result of discussions between Dubai Municipality and Kraft Foods during last year’s Dubai International Food safety Conference (DIFC).

Four members of the leadership of Kraft Foods’ regional Research, Development and Quality Department, Ahmet Anbarci, Russel Dunn, Ciaran Conway, and Thomas Weiss, will each present technical insights and know-how on food safety and quality systems including HAACP and shelf life assessment.

“As part of the company’s global tradition, Kraft Foods has enjoyed over the past several years, a distinguished relationship with its partners in the Middle East, particularly in ensuring the common goals of producing high quality, safe, nutrient and delicious foods to consumers in the region. This workshop, together with our participation as platinum sponsors in this year’s DIFSC, is a true reflection of the level of cooperation that we have reached with our partners in the UAE in general, and Dubai Municipality in particular,” said Ahmet Anbarci, Director - Scientific, Regulatory Affairs and Nutrition Applications CEEMA, Kraft Foods.
“With the increasing globalization of food trade, food safety has become the collective responsibility of all parties involved in the food chain, from primary producers to manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers alike. The sharing of global best practices, scientific insights and industry know-how is paramount in developing a more cohesive and robust global food safety control system”, he added.
“Food safety is a critical issue. As leaders in the industry, we strive to be transparent and share our best practice methods and insights with others to enhance the safety of the food supply. We are very pleased to collaborate with Dubai Municipality and other food regulatory authorities in the UAE and are grateful for this opportunity to take part in this important dialogue on the future of the country’s food safety development”, concluded Anbarci.

From 21 to 24 February, Kraft Foods, as Platinum Sponsors, will be supporting the Dubai International Food Safety Conference 2010. Anbarci, Conway, and Dunn also will be speaking at the conference about Kraft Foods’ worldwide approach to systematic management of product safety and quality, referred to as the Quality Chain Management System (QCMS). In addition, Vickie Lewandowski, Associate Principle Scientist, Kraft Cheese & Dairy and President of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), will be addressing audiences about global IAPF initiatives.
With 25 percent of Kraft Foods USD50billion global revenue coming from emerging markets including the Middle East, the region represents an important growth market for the company. The company’s strong support of both the Dubai International Food Safety Conference for the second consecutive year, and its role in supporting Dubai Municipality in their efforts to improve food safety standards in the UAE is a testament to Kraft Foods’ commitment to the region.
